November update

School life has been very busy this November and a newsletter will be in the bags at the end of the month. Here is a snippet of the activities/events that have been going on:

SCIENCE WEEK IN SCHOOL

Teacher Maria prepared and circulated an experiment a day in the magic box and students and staff tried these out in class.  Lots if interest and experimentation!  Well done all!

SCIENCE WEEK IN UL

Lily Class attended Animal Magic event in UL Foundation Building. There were snakes, owls, rabbits, snakes and a chinchilla!  There was also some fun in the cool elevators in the Foundation Building with wonderful views of the mosaics and the huge replica of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Flying Machine! What an adventure.

SPORTSABILITY DAY

Poppy and Bluebell Classes went to UL Sports Arena on Friday, Nov. 15th after a lot of jigging and rejigging of buses (2 breakdowns).  Many thanks to Mary C and Christine for all their work on this with us.  Thanks also to all staff, particularly our SNAs and Nursing staff for the work re meds organisation, etc.  Great to see everyone pulling together to facilitate this important event.

END OF MONTH DISCO

Taking place on Thursday, Nov. 28th.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION (PA)

The Parents’ Association held a meeting at the school on Nov. 8th. Thanks as always for their support of the school.

HORSERIDING IN LISKINNETT

Horse riding for Lily Class continues and we love to see them head off on a Tuesday to engage in this fantastic activity!

MUSIC THERAPY

This is a big gap in our provision right now.  We are exploring the possibility of a paid placement for a student from the MA in Music Therapy in UL.  We hope to provide this in the future.  If PA/Patron Body interested in supporting this, we feel it would be very beneficial to students in our school.

FORMING NEW BOARD OF MANAGEMENT FOR OUR SCHOOL

Arrangements have been underway throughout October – November by the Chairperson of our Board, Mary O’Donovan to appoint a new Board of Management by December.  On Nov. 18th, the teacher representative will be elected by the staff.

Parent nominees to the Board are being finalised.

Patron nominee is Treasa McAuliffe, Clinical Services Manager, St. Gabriel’s Centre.

Community nominees will be appointed at the first meeting of the newly configured board on December 5th, 2019.
