We were fortunate in February 2020 to accept an invitation from SSPC Centre, UL to visit their labs and see how we can collaborate on future scientific events together. Teacher Maria, our STEM Co-ordinator, took up the invitation after school on Thursday and was delighted to learn lots and renew and deepen relationships with all at SSPC, UL. We look forward to having these links flow into enriching the curricular experiences of our students.
In 2019, our staff and students worked towards achieving a our first SFI Discover Science & Maths Award.
Science work in our school involves the different classes designing and carrying out investigations under the headings of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths (STEAM)
At the end of the investigations, the students (with support) gather their findings and present their work to their friends.
The students have been working very hard towards this goal all year, participating in Science Week, inviting guest speakers and scientific demonstrators to come to the school and carrying out experiments and investigations in the classroom.
We have been supported in this work by Sarah Hayes and team from the SPCC, University of Limerick and we treasure these invaluable educational links.
