General School News for January 2020

Hello All

A busy January in all classes and across the school as you will have seen from the home-school diaries and on Twitter @stgabriels_ss

We welcomed new staff member Deirdre Keogh and we welcomed back Sinéad Darmody from maternity leave and contributing greatly to our younger classes.

We also welcomed LIT students in early January and they are becoming familiar with school life and contributing to the overall school experience for our students.  We hope that they will get the opportunity to learn lots that will be of value to them in their future careers and lives.

We had our whole staff Special Olympics induction on Monday, 27th Jan.  so we are eager to get going on this, led by Maria Nolan.  Don’t forget to return Athlete Participation Forms if you get a chance.  We are planning a SPECIAL OLYMPICS LAUNCH so keep your eyes and ears peeled for this!

We secured our Active Flag this month and for that we are grateful to Ronan and the Active Flag team for all their efforts.

The Digital Learning Team is presenting to the PTA on Thursday to let them know our plans for digital learning in the school.

Gillian, our music therapist in training from UL, started with us on Thursday 23rd.  We look forward to working together with her and our students.

Activities such as swimming, horseriding, food dudes, end of month  disco, weekly Cruinniú continue we are happy to say, and these contribute to the vibrancy of daily life at school.

Preparations are underway for one of the highlights of the school year which is our Holy Communion Celebration taking place at St. Paul’s Church, at 11am on May 9th.  Students and staff are starting the various preparations which span the whole curriculum and we are excited for a wonderful school community day.  Sinéad Darmody is the lead teacher on the Holy Communion and will be assisted by an excellent team.

As the weather gets brighter, we hope to turn our attention to our outdoor spaces and Sensory Garden and improve the look and functionality of them for our students.

I want to thank sincerely the students, staff, PTA and BOM for your engagement with and support of the school as we strive every day to adapt and improve what we do to meet the particular needs of our students.

EASI PAYMENTS+

Thank you to those families who have engaged with the online payments system on our website.  It really helps us at school to cover the day to day running costs of the school such as heating, lighting and hoists maintenance.

The system is new to us also so if there are any problems getting access or making it work, please contact Deirdre in the office and she will be happy to help.
